Recaps of Today: Holland Embarrasses Spain, Mexico Pass By Cameroon, Chile Passes by Socceroos

Today was another day of spectacular goals, controversies on plays by the referee, and upsets. The day started off when Mexico faced Cameroon in Natal. It was a must win for both teams if they wanted to make it to the Round of 16. The scoring looked like it started in the first 15 minutes when Dos Santos of Mexico scored on Hector Herrera`s cross, but they said Santos was offside. Replays showed he was onside, but goal was disallowed. The same thing happened again in the 29th minute when Santos scored off a header. The ball hit a Cameroon player before hitting Santos, but again it was no good. In the second half, Oribe Peralta got robbed one on one with Cameroon goalkeeper Charles Itandje. They finally scored in the 61st minute when after a save from Dos Santos` shot, Peralta put in the rebound for the lead. Both teams fought for another goal, but the Mexicans held on for three points and a tie for first in their group with Brazil. Cameroon is now tied with Croatia for last.
Shortly after, Spain played Holland in Salvador. Many favored Spain for the win but Holland upset them with five goals. Xabi Alonso of Spain scored on a penalty in the 27th minute when he was tripped in the box. But a header from Robin van Persie came in the 44th minute to tie at one. The Dutch took the lead when Arjen Robben shot it passed Spanish defenders Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos before passing the goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Stefan de Vrij tipped in the ball in the net on the right post from a free kick for a 3-1 lead. Spain fell even further behind in the 72nd when Casillas was playing with the ball too much, allowing van Persie to steal it and score on a wide open net. The Dutch weren`t done as when Robben beat Casillas one on one to score a cut-back to the middle to finish the 5-1 score. Holland has a better chance of winning this group with the win against their rivals.
Chile easily beat the Socceroos 3-1 thanks to a stoppage time goal. In Cuiaba, Alexis Sanchez scored in the 12th minute when Charles Aranguz let Australian goalkeeper Maty Ryan for Sanchez to score after Eduardo Vargas`s header came to Sanches. The score doubled two minutes later when Jorge Valdivia shot it over Ryan into the net after he got a pass from Sanchez. In the 35th minute, the lead cut in half when Tim Cahill scored on a header from a cross by Ivan Franjic. The Australians fought for a second after one was denied because of a offsides call. Chile sealed it with a 91st minute goal by Jean Beausejour when he struck it low in the bottom corner of the net. In Group B, Holland and Chile are tied for first, while Spain and the Socceroos are tied for last.
