Group E Recaps: Ecuador Red Turns to Elimination and Swiss Easily Qualify

The first Group E match was France vs. Ecuador. Ecuador advanced with a win and Swiss don`t win or a tie and a Swiss loss. France would advance with a win or tie. in the 15th minute, Moussa Sissoko had his volley saved by Ecuador keeper Alex Dominguez. In the 38th, Paul Pogba headed one on target that Dominguez tipped over the bar. In the 41st, Enner Valencia headed Michael Arroyo`s cross on target but French keeper Hugo Lloris saved it. In the 47th, Antoine Griezmann`s volley from a Bacary Sagna was saved by Dominguez. Dominguez made some fine saves, blocking Blaise Matuidi`s high drive in the 62nd and Karim Benzema`s deflected shot in the 65th just went wide. Ecuador lost Antonio Valencia in the 50th when he tackled Lucas Digne to the ground. Enner Valencia set Renato Ibarra for a chance, but Lloris blocked it away. Benzema had his shot in the 84th saved by Dominguez, and French sub Loic Remy forced Dominguez into a diving save in the 86th. They were scoreless at the end as France topped the group and Ecuador out.
Next match was Honduras vs. Switzerland. Switzerland needed a win while Honduras was eliminated after the tie. In the 3rd minute, Josip Drmic sent a pass to Xherdan Shaqiri, but Shaqiri`s shot was stopped by Honduras keeper Noel Valladares. Shaqiri scored in the 6th from distance that went into his top left corner beating Valladares. After 30 minutes, Shaqiri scored again when he found Drmic`s pass and went one on one with Valladares before hitting the right corner for a 2-0 lead. Before half, Shaqiri passed to Drmic, whose shot was saved by Valladares. After the half Honduras had a chance when when Jerry Bengston missed the header but his next chance passed the keeper but defender Ricardo Rodriguez blocked it on the line. In the 60th, Jerry Palacios went down in the box, but here was no call. Shaqiri got the hat trick in the 71st when Drmic passed it again to Shaqiri for him to tap it in to qualify.View image on Twitter
