Recap of Today Part 1: Costa Rica Stuns Uruguay and Columbia Breeze by Greeks

Today started off with a major upset and a leader in the group looking calm. The first game today was Columbia vs. Greece in Belo Horizonte. Many of the crowd was wearing yellow for Columbia, and it may have helped them. Because five minutes into the game, they had a lead. Pablo Armero shot a ball from close range to the left side of the post that was deflected, as the soccer ball slowly past the Greek goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis. Karnezis needed to be at the top of his game if they wanted points, but it was too much. In the 58th minute, Teofilo Gutierrez scored on a header from a yard out from a corner by Abel Aguilar. Columbia nearly scored again when Theofanis Gekas` header hit the crossbar. James Rodriguez scored in the 92nd when hitting it home with a low shot just inside the box.
Next, Costa Rica faced Uruguay. In the group called the Group of Death, it looked like Costa Rica had no chance against Uruguay, Italy, and England. It started in the 24th when Edinson Cavani scored on a penalty on a low shot near the right post for the lead. But Costa Rica wasn`t done. They scored three goals in the last half, with a 54th minute the first. Joel Campbell scored on a cross that beat Fernando Muslera. Three minutes later, Oscar Duarte scored using his head from a free kick the Ricans to take the lead. Luis Suarez, the main star for Uruguay, sat out because of knee surgery. Costa Rica sealed the win when Marcos Urena beat Muslera one on one as he was able to beat Muslera with the ball in the 84th. The first red card in this World Cup came in the 94th minute when Maximiliano Pereira of Uruguay tripped Cambell purposely. Stay tuned for Recap of Today, June 14 Part 2 with the recaps of Ivory Coast vs. Japan and England vs. Italy!
