Group A Recaps: Brazil Tops Group and Mexico Claim Final Spot

Today both Group A matches played at the same time today. Brazil faced Cameroon and would advance with a win/tie while Cameroon is already eliminated. Fred of Brasil had his shot saved in the first half. It was 1-0 Brazil in the 17th minute when Luiz Gustavo passed the ball to Neymar, who struck it home low. Cameroon went level in the 26th when Joel Matip slotted an easy pass from Allan Nyom for a score. Neymar scored again when Marcelo gave a pass and wrong footed Cameroon keeper Charles Itandje. Itandje made a save on Neymar`s next shot, which was a volley. In the 49th, Fred made it 3-0 when he tapped in David Luiz`s cross. Fernandinho scored the last for Brasil as he toe poked one in. Brasil will face Chile in the Round of 16.
The other Group A match was Mexico vs. Croatia for second place. The loser would be eliminated and winner would got through. If there was a tie, Mexico would go through. In the 16th minute, Hector Herrera of Mexico shot one off the crossbar from some distance. Danijel Pranjic of Croatia shot one over on a rebound in the 27th minute. Two penalties were not called for Mexico between seconds in the 64th. First, Javier Hernandez got fouled while trying to head a ball in. Then, Croatian player Darijo Srna used his hand to block a shot.Mexico took the lead in the 72nd when Rafa Marquez headed Herrera`s cross down low near the post for the lead. Three minutes later, Mexico scored again when Oribe Peralta crossed it to Andres Guardado who hit it with his first touch. Ante Rebic of Croatia shot one that Herrera saved off the line. Hernandez made it 3-0 when he headed one at the near post unmanned. Rebic got a red card in the 89th, and Croatia scored when Ivan Perisic shot one from a tight angle. Mexico won the game and will face Holland in the Last 16.
